MVFPD | 2011 Letter from the Chief

The past two years have been all about transformation for Mountain View Fire Rescue. In calendar year 2009 I shared with all of you that we are a fire department that is flexible enough to make the necessary changes to affect positive service outcomes and still maintain a sustainable organization in all areas of business. It is this organization’s intent to take advantage of opportunities, weaknesses and threats in an effort to enhance organizational sustainability.

In 2010 our message was one of financial security and smart business practices. I shared with all of you that we have taken conservative financial measures in how we operate and manage your fire department, in an effort to avoid negative service impacts. Economic responsibility is this fire department's goal.

In 2011 I am proud to share with you that your fire department continues to hold those core values I shared with you in previous messages. On a daily basis, your fire department continues to develop new strategies that will insure that we will be here to provide improved quality, professional services to our communities and all of you for years to come.

This year Mountain View Fire Rescue personnel embarked on an improvement process to become a Nationally Accredited Fire Department. This process includes a comprehensive self-assessment and evaluation model that will enable us to examine past, current, and future service levels and performance and compare them to industry best practices. This process leads to improved service delivery by helping us:

  • Determine community risk and safety needs.
  • Evaluate the performance of the fire department.
  • Establish a method for achieving continuous organizational improvement

This strategy and process coincides with our practices of the past two years, and will assist us in developing processes that allow for continuous improvement in all our business practices in future years. We are your fire department and we are committed to:

  • Developing relationships with all our citizens and communities.
  • Ensuring awareness around who we are and what services we provide.
  • Developing processes that allow for continuous improvement in all our business practices.
  • Seeking new alternate funding opportunities.
  • Securing existing funding sources.
  • Creating a sustainable organization that provides unparalleled service to all of you.

Every firefighter and paramedic associated with our fire department knows it is an honor and privilege for us to be welcomed with open arms into your homes, businesses and communities. Our people take nothing for granted and have a sincere desire to assist you should you ever need our help. We are committed to a having a strong relationship with our citizens and the communities we serve.
