Mountain View's Training Section is under the direction of the shift Battalion Chiefs. The Fire Training personnel consist of 3 Captains Shad Bennet, Hal Plitt and Jennifer Nay. Each shift has a Training Captain assigned to the shift. The EMS training is handled by Twink Dalton. This Division oversees all training functions including but not limited to fire academies, on-going District training, Officer Development, and specialized training subject matter.

Mountain View Firefighters are faced with many different challenges everyday. It is our goal to have each firefighter perform a minimum of 20 hours of training per month to ensure that skills are maintained and enhanced to serve our customer's needs in a moment's notice. They receive instruction in Firefighting, Apparatus Operations, Emergency Medical Services, Hazardous Materials and various other subjects.

The Training Division coordinates the following programs and services to our firefighters as wells as firefighters around the region.

Fire Academy
The Mountain View Fire Protection District is involved in two Fire Academies – one for volunteer and one for career personnel. Firefighters in both academies receive countless hours of instruction in firefighting (both structural and wildland), specialized rescue, and Hazardous Materials. The instruction received at these academies is a combination of Hands-on Drill Ground and classroom instruction. Firefighters who complete the academies, test to become certified by the State of Colorado

Propane Fire and Vapor Emergency Simulator
This simulator is a regional training tool that simulates emergencies encountered with Liquid Propane Gas (LPG). The simulator includes a LPG Tank, and a LPG Tree. Live Fire Training is done with this simulator, as a part of the course instruction. Mountain View's Propane Fire and Vapor Emergency Simulator, along with a group of instructors travels around the state to train other firefighters. This propane simulator is one of the highlights of the annual Colorado Firefighters Academy in Durango during October.

Self Contained Breathing Apparatus Maze
Another popular training prop of the District. Training tool teaches firefighters how to become more comfortable utilizing SCBA, to negotiate confined spaces, to negotiate hazards such as hanging wires, and helps improve team work skills when operating in a structure fire. As part of the Basic Fire Academy firefighters must successfully complete this prop with one bottle of breathing air. On going training for Firefighters requires firefighters complete the maze at least once annually.

This tool is another tool that is mobile and can be transported regionally along with Mountain View Instructors to train fellow firefighters.
