Together with providing fire suppression and prevention, Mountain View Fire Rescue also offers pre-hospital emergency medical care. The Fire District has been responding to emergency medical calls for the past 30 years.

All firefighters within the District are required to have medical certification and participate in the EMS (emergency medical services) division. Their skills range from Emergency Medical Technicians(EMT) to paramedic level.

Paid-Part Time and Career firefighters  are required to hold and maintain the level of EMT-Basic. Twenty two paramedics complete the staff.

With an increase in emergency medical response, paramedics were added to the career staff in 1996. In 2001, Mountain View Fire expanded its services to include pre-hospital transportation, with the addition of its first paramedic rescue.

The District provides this service with three Paramedic ambulances providing ALS (advanced life support) transportation.

All of the Paramedic ambulances are staffed with a minimum of one Firefighter / EMT and one Firefighter / Paramedic. All members assigned to the EMS division are also crossed trained in fire suppression duties.
