The newest addition to the Fire District is the national Wildland Team. Beginning in 2001, the members of the Wildland Team have seen numerous deployments. The team is overseen by Battalion Chief Dave Beebe.
Deployment
Firefighters spent many weeks at the Hayman Fire in 2002, as well as assisted with the recovery of the
Space Shuttle Columbia. Both career members and volunteers are sent out for deployments within the State of Colorado and throughout the United States.
Deploying Equipment
When the team is deployed, they may be requested to respond with a piece of fire apparatus. The location and size of the fire will determine what fire truck the team will take. The request is made from the dispatch center and the decision of what truck to respond with is handled by the officer in charge. Mountain View Fire will respond with one or more of the following pieces of apparatus Type VI, Type VII, and Type I.
Deploying Members
Together with sending out a team of three firefighters as an engine crew, the Fire District also sends firefighters as single resources. These members fill the position of an engine boss or as team leaders to assist other fire departments. Members of the team have filled the roles of air operations managers, air attack group supervisors, and strike team leaders.
